Can You Sew

I have a few pairs of trousers that are too big for me now, so I took some of them in on the sewing machine, and the others, I have turned into skirts, I do like sewing, manly because it saves a fortune on buying new clothes, but making a garment from scratch requires too much patience! Do you sew? Do you make garments from scratch? Are you a boy or a gir? Who taught you to sew?

my mom is a fabulous sewer but unfortunately, it has not become hereditary! lol! anyways, i usually take my sewing to her when i need stuff done. i am pretty fortunate this way. a long time ago, it used to be cheaper to make your own clothes, but not so much anymore. [cher913]
thats true, unless you buy in MAJOR bulk, fabric is expensive! [3cardmonte]

My grandma is a very good sewer, she taught me how to make clothes from scratch but i have no interest with it, i find it hard to use the sewing machine, i only know hand sewing to fix the clothes has been tore off. [rainmark]
quite a lot of people are like that. [3cardmonte]

I enjoy sewing, both mending and making things from scratch, although I haven't done anything for a long time. One of these days I want to try my hand at a quilt. For the clothes that you don't resize, have you thought of cutting them into squares to make a quilt out of someday? Save up the squares for a few years and eventually you would have a 'history' quilt. The trouble with making new things from scratch nowadays, is that frequently the patterns cost more that buying a similar item off of a sale rack. Adding the cost of fabric and notions, then it's apt to be more than buying the item somewhere at full price. The one thing I HATE to do is sew on buttons. Isn't that funny? I've been known to throw things away before I resew a button. [catdla1]
sewing on buttons is so dull!! [3cardmonte]

Hey, Well when I was at school, we were actually taught how to sew shorts. And after they were completed, they actually looked like proper shorts. My mother even confused them with some shorts that she bought from the shops. Make sure you have a good day, God bless and Happy Lotting!!happy [EliteUser]
